Holt Lutheran School is a K-8 Christian school. Our school is built on a strong foundation of Biblical morals and values, modeled by dedicated teachers who believe wholeheartedly in the importance of educating our children with Christ at the center of our daily lives.
Thanks to the small classes and nurturing environment, our students are academically, socially and morally prepared to continue their education beyond Holt Lutheran. We help them become a reflection of Jesus’s love as they chart a path through the world.
Our curriculum is based on the Michigan Academic Standards and we are accredited by Cognia.
Our mission is to provide a quality, Christ-centered academic environment where students are equipped for a Christian life of witness, leadership, and service.
Our goal is to guide the growth and development of the whole child: intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual. We encourage the growth of the whole child and nurture the specific gifts that God has given each child.
Our doors opened in 1972 for students in grades K-6. Over the past 50+ years, we have served students in every grade between pre-kindergarten and high school. Today, Holt Lutheran School offers a Christian education for grades K-8. Our building also houses Sonshine Early Childhood Center, a Christian daycare and preschool for infants through four-year-olds.
Learning is a life-long endeavor. Students need continual opportunities to practice and assume increasing responsibility for their own learning so they become intrinsically motivated to continue learning beyond school walls. Self-motivated learners can use what they already know and are able to address future challenges in learning and life.
The first step in becoming a self-motivated learner is the realization that you need to learn something new. This realization then allows students to cooperate fully with the teacher in the learning process.
Once students accept their need and responsibility for learning, they can take the next step toward independence as a learner. They set goals for their learning based on academic standards and measures of their own performance. With the teacher’s guidance, they become increasingly articulate about and effective with outlining both the substance and the purposes of their learning.
Fully engaged, self-motivated learners initiate learning because of an internal drive for deeper understanding, skills, and knowledge. They achieve challenging goals on their own for the sheer joy of learning, seeking assistance when needed and using new understandings to identify their next set of learning goals.
Life and work in the 21st century require high levels of thinking, performance, communication, and problem solving. Schools around the world are held accountable for increasingly higher levels of achievement; parents and society quite rightly expect that the claims of schools to educate young people toward specific results should be documented and achieved. In addition, competition for jobs is now global rather than merely local or even regional. Holt Lutheran offers the private Christian education that many parents seek.

"As a parent I love how open the teachers are to stop and talk about my students and their well-being at any point. They care about more than just their grades and have consistently encouraged them to talk through feelings, frustrations and express themselves all the time. I believe it is because of that, that my children have done so well throughout school."
